Reliable Air Filter Upgrade Kit for Continental Engines
The Reliable Air Filter (Weldmart-OnlineP/N: RTS-4100) is an upgrade for the Continental engines in Lincoln SA-200 and SA-250 welders.
Contents of the Reliable Air Filter upgrade kit:
- Filter canister assembly, complete with dual filter elements.
- Canister mounting bracket.
- Air cleaner hose designed for the Marvel Schriver® or newer Zenith® carburetor found on the Continental® F-162 and F-163 engines (used in Lincoln SA-200 and SA-250 welders).
- Adapter plate and all necessary hardware to install the air cleaner assembly and hose.
- Complete installation instructions and replacement parts breakdown.
- Toll-free 800 number for support.
- Lifetime "no hassle" warranty: if it breaks, cracks, chips, warps, or just turns to crap, and it's our fault, we will repair or replace the damaged items. (If you damage it, we expect you to be honest and 'fess up! Call us and we'll take care of the problem!)
Four-Stage Filtration System:
- The patented dynamic precleaner removes 97% of air borne particles including; water, leaves, snow, grass, and dust particles, before the air enters the main filter body.
- The centrifugal effects of spinning the incoming air removes an additional 50% of the smaller particles that are then expelled through the rubber "burp" valve.
- The primary paper filter removes the majority of the remaining small particles.
- The inner blue "safety" filter provides an extra measure of protection by filtering to the micron level plus acting as a "back-up to the primary filter in case of a primary filter rupture.
- NOTE: To this day we have NEVER sold a replacement inner blue safety filter. All the original blue filters are all still in service!
Installation of the Filter Kit:
- The original Continental oil bath filter assembly and mounting plate is removed and discarded.
- The filter canister is removed from the mounting bracket and the adapter plate is installed on the bracket, and then the assembly is mounted in place of the original air filter.
- The canister and hose are installed and positioned as shown below.
Note the position of the precleaner, burp valve, and Pop-Up indicator.
Air Cleaner Service Information
Did you know that an air filter is the least efficient when it is new?
When should you change an air filter? Many people believe that, if a filter looks dirty, it is no longer working and should be changed. But, as stated above, filters need dirt to work properly. The key is knowing when the filter is so dirty that too much energy is required by the engine to draw in air and it no longer functions at its designed performance level.
Should you remove a filter to examine it? NO, never remove a filter until you are sure it needs to be replaced. Most dust and dirt that enters your engine comes from over-servicing the air filter. When an air filter is removed, its seal is broken, and the dust and dirt in the air filter canister now have a clear path into your engine.
It's true: air filters need some dirt to work better. The dust particles that accumulate on the surface of the paper actually close off part of the openings in the paper. This means the particle size of the dust that can get past must be smaller than the original opening (porosity) of the paper. Our filter's precleaners eliminate the large particles of dust from prematurely closing off the filter, while allowing smaller particles to adhere to the paper media and create more efficient filtration.
Use an Enginaire® Dust Load Indicator (DLI) to tell you when to change the filter. Enginaire® Dust Load Indicators take the guesswork out of air filter changes. The DLI is a vacuum-sensitive device that "pops" and shows red when it is time to change filters.
- If it is not red: Don't open the filter and allow more dirt to enter into the engine.
- If it is red: Carefully remove the filter cover and immediately vacuum the canister to remove loose dirt. Then slowly remove the filter, being careful not to disturb the dirt that may have become caked around the seal of the filter. Again vacuum the canister, and then wipe the sealing area with a damp cloth to insure no dirt can get into your engine. Replace the filter immediately with either a new one or one that has been properly cleaned.
How do you clean an air filter? NEVER use high-powered air or bang it against something hard! By doing so, you can tear the paper or damage the sealing area and thus render the filter worse than useless. Paper filters can be cleaned by carefully vacuuming their surface with a soft brush to remove loose dust.
The way to insure the longest life from your air filters and engines is to use Enginaire® Precleaners to remove the large particles of dust from the air stream before they enter the system and prematurely overload the filter, then use an Enginaire® Dust Load Indicator to tell you when to change the filter. You will increase the service life of your air filters and equipment while at the same time decreasing your maintenance costs.
